Upgrading my Dell XPS 15 9570! [SSD RAM & Wi-Fi] | The Tech Chap

I use the Dell XPS 15 9570 for editing 4K video, but 6 months after launch it’s due an upgrade. I’m adding 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD & a new Wi-Fi chip – but will it make a big difference?

  1. Hi Chaps! Thanks for all your comments – Quick update:

    1) If you're doing this upgrade, you could go for the newer Intel 9260 Wi-Fi card (faster, BT 5.), I already had a 8265 laying around so I wanted to keep costs down (and still improve my Wi-fi reliability)

    2) Some of you are saying I re-connected the black/white antenna wires incorrectly on the Wi-Fi chip, in fact the Killer card required them to be the opposite way around compared to the Intel. Which is why I reconnected them in a different way.

    3) Be very, VERY careful with the two phillips-head screws under the flap. They are extremely soft and easy to thread.

    4) You can unplug the battery before doing upgrades if you need to, better to be safe than sorry, but it's not absolutely necessary.

Hope you enjoyed the video! Cheers 🙂

  2. So to my understanding, you cannot add a new drive, you must replace the old drive. If that’s the case, then how do you backup everything?

  3. Have not had a DELL machine since 2007. Constantly overheating and poor battery. It would be interesting to do a comparison of a similarly spec Macbook pro. Price V performance and upgrade-ability etc.

  4. Hello, i have also XPS 15 9560 but my battery she's died and I have to change it do you have any recommendation?? thanks

  5. Can the dell xps 15 play 4k/ 8k video smoothly with out jitter? For video editing.

I have the samsung galaxy s20 ultra and shoot alot of 4k and 8k. Also with gopro.

My current laptop can't play 4k
    (asus ROG G750J) I7 4th gen/ gtx770m/ 32gb ram.

Spewing I have to upgrade its been reliable no problems at all in 8 years

  6. Is this laptop can handle the heat generated by i7-8750H processor ? I have researched i7-8750H laptop for a longtime , only the MSI, coolerboost-5 model laptops can handle it after you under-voltage it, and get about 1280cb of cinebench R15, if the result is not, I will never upgrade any parts of such laptop.

  7. I have a budget laptop I life zedair with 2 gb ram. And 32gb hard drive. Is it possible for me to upgrade the hdd.

  8. I don't understand. Why didn't you just clone the drive and enlarge the partition afterwards? You can get a NVME container USB for 30 bucks. Boot up Linux, copy the drive to the Samsung one, boot up and use Windows disk Manager to enlarge the partition. No hours of waiting to process Windows updates.

  9. It goes to show the rip-off pricing for Dell spec bumps. You upgraded with better quality parts for less AND you ended up with spares (Drive, memory & wifi)!

  10. I know this video is a touch old however, the reason why these dell NVMe drives have slow writes is because they're DRAMless. So they have to borrow system memory to cache data locations.
